The idea to launch this largest regional newspapers net work i.e. Daily Mahasib was conceived by Zafar Hijazi, senior Chartered Accountant and former Commissioner of Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan in 1996. Mr. Zafar Hijazi is a person well known in newspaper industry due to his administrative skills. He was the key person behind launching of Daily Observer & Al- Akhbar from Islamabad and himself launched Daily Asas in 1995 from Rawalpindi. The Daily Asas was a great success but due to differences within partners, he left that newspaper after one and half year. Narrating the story that how the idea to launch Daily Mahasib from ABBOTTABAD, MUZAFFARABAD AND MIRPUR OF AZAD KASHMIR(AJK) and Gilgit/ Baltistan of NORTHERN AREAS, remote northern cities of Pakistan/ Azad Kashmir came to his mind, Mr. Zafar Hijazi tells that an advertisement from Sony Corporation published in Pakistani newspapers in those days really motivated him to do something new in the newspaper industry. In his words:

“After I left Daily Asas, I took it as my big defeat. As far as newspaper was concerned no doubt Daily Asas was a great success but fact was that my financial projections had failed due to which I had to invite new partners knowing well that in our society partnerships seldom succeed. Newspaper was my passion and I felt sad on my failure to keep control of Daily Asas. I wanted to do something but what did not know what to do. Then appeared an advertisement in newspapers in which history of Sony Corporation was narrated. The add narrated that when Sony Corporation was founded in 1946, the first meeting of its board of Directors was held in a room wherein water was leaking in from war effected roofs and Directors were sitting on broken table with umbrellas at their heads to escape from water .The Chairman/ founder of the company gave first business principle / guideline to his fellow director saying “Gentlemen we will do a thing which none else has been able to do so far” The company started working and succeeded to invent Transistor. Transistor in that shape could be used for making Hearing Aids for deaf. Everyone in Sony was happy but Mr. Chairman disappointed them when he said “Sorry: are we now starting unending search of deaf…? No Sir…we have to make a product for use of everyone” So Chairman gave second principle to his company “that product should have a wide customers range.” The company again started its work and in 6 months it succeeded to covert Transistor into Transistor Radio. Once again every one in the company was jubilant as company had received an order to produce 100 thousand Transistor radios from an American Company with the condition to manufacture the lot under brand name of the ordering American Company. Chairman of Sony Corporation at this moment asked the company to not to accept order saying “Are we going to produce original things for others reducing ourselves to dummy company..? No Sir we will ourselves market our product with Sony brand and I assure you that in 50 years Sony Corporation will be the largest Corporation in the electronics world” So the third principle given to Sony Corporation by its chairman was branding of the business patiently.

In 1996 the Sony Corporation celebrated its 50th anniversary claiming to be the largest corporation of world.

Mr. Hijazi tells that this story of Sony Corporation brought to him a lot of wisdom. “I too decided to do something novel which other could not and so came the idea of launching the Daily Mahasib as a regional newspaper from important cities of Ak and Northern Areas.

In the said areas either first edition of newspapers printed at Islamabad/ Rawalpindi around 6 pm was being supplied next day or newspapers factually reach there next day. I decided to use modern communication techniques, having central news desk at Islamabad and regional desk and complete printing presses established in Abbottabad, Muzaffarabad, Mirpur and Gilgit. This brought a revolution in said areas as readers of newspapers started getting newspaper carrying latest news. Today this newspaper that was a founded in 1997 has become a market leader in said areas.

The area covered by Daily Mahasib starts from Bhimber of Ak to Hunza of Northern Areas is a market of nearly 12 Million people including most rich cities like Mirpur, Dudial and Abbottabad.

The daily Mahasib is a socio economic project. It provides job opportunity to 82 employees in the backward cities and has become voice of poor and oppressed communities. It advocates tolerance in the society and inter religion and ethnic harmony. In 2001 it had to face blasphemy case registered by some religious extremists and its Editor and three other staff members were arrested by police and office of the newspaper was sealed. It too 40 days to get bail from Court and newspapers started its publication afresh after 42 days.

Daily Mahasib is an independent newspaper, is not aligned to any political, religious or social party due to which it enjoys unparallel creditability and is widely circulated in Hazara Division of N.W.F.P , Northern Areas & Azad Kashmir. Daily Mahasib is very proud on its role plyed at the ytime of 2005 earth quak that jolted the whole life in Azad Kashmir’e.

Launched in the memory of Nasim Hijazi who wrote most of his master piece novels while residing in Abbottabad, urdu newspaper Daily Mahasib started its journey from Abbottabad in Jan. 1997. Abbottabad newspaper Mahasib has played an important role in enlightening the society. If Hazara Division of NWFP demonstrates a little mature behaviour as compared to other parts of NWFP , politically and religiously, Mahasib has certainly contributed much to it.

Urdu newspaper Daily Mahasib Muzaffarabad started its journey in May 1998, few days before atomic explosion by Pakistan. This newspaper can be truly titled as Muzaffarabad newspaper/Azad Kashmir newspaper/Kashmir newspaper.

Urdu news paper Daily Mahasib Mirpur started its journey in Feb. 2006 and it can also be truly titled as Mirpur newspaper/ AJK newspaper.

Daily Mahasib Gilgit started its journey in Aug. 2007. This is the only newspaper which is printed and published locally whereas all other newspapers claim to be published in Gilgit/Baltistan are factually printed in Rawalpindi/Islamabad. Gilgit newspaper, Daily Mahasib, was a great challenge for the team of this Urdu newspaper as no facilities whatsoever were available in Gilgit.
